 English Writing Beginner's Camp
English Writing Intermediate Camp
Grade:  Rising 4 - 5 Grade
Date:     week 5 and week 6 (7/24 - 8/4)
Time： 8:30 am - 1 pm 

This course will focus on nonfiction writing with an emphasis on skills aligned with grade-level Common Core Standards.
  • Students will write opinion pieces and informative essays through a process of planning, drafting, workshopping, conferencing, revising, and editing.
  • Using exemplary mentor texts, students will study the author's craft choices and practice incorporating them into their own writing.
  • They will also learn how to state clear thesis statements, substantiate claims, and organize their writing to flow smoothly from one idea to the next.
By the end of the course, students should leave with actionable steps they can use to improve their writing.
Grade:  Rising 6 - 8 Grade
Date:     week 5 and week 6 (7/24 - 8/4)
Time： 1 pm - 5:30 pm

​In this course, students will be focused on writing persuasive or informative essays that align with Common Core standards for nonfiction writing.
  • Students will spend time analyzing mentor texts for content, organization, and style, then use their observations to improve their own craft.
  • During this course, lessons will cover the entire writing process from brainstorming to final edits. 
  • Students will also meet with the teacher for small group or one-on-one conferences to receive targeted feedback based on their strengths and areas of growth.
Students should leave this course feeling confident in their essay writing skills and prepared for middle school coursework.
